Line of the Day: Albert Pujols: September 1, 2011

One of my favorite bloggers, Daniel aka Colorado Springs Fantasy Baseball Addict has recently closed down his site. I don’t play fantasy baseball, but I do take a regular peek at Daniel’s blog to get an idea of who had a particularly good game the previous day. In a tribute to the COSFBA, I give you my version of what would have been his Line of the Day from September 1.

First baseman Albert Pujols went 4-4 with two home runs, including a grand slam. He would drive in 5 runs on the day, and score three times as the Cardinals completed their three game sweep of the Brewers in Milwaukee. His grand slam in the third inning broke the game open, and the Cardinals cruised to the win. This game was also remarkable in that both Albert Pujols and Rafael Furcal hit first inning home runs on consecutive days. (grand slam video recap)

Line: 4 AB | 3 R | 4 H | 5 RBI; 2 HR

My fantasy perspective: Albert Pujols is playing out the final year of his contract in St. Louis. He will be one of the most sought after free agents following the season. Pujols did get off to a very slow start to 2011, but since May 1, he is hitting .305 / .381 / .581. September is normally one of Albert’s strongest months, so expect him to put up big numbers as he closes in on .300 for the season, and perhaps even reaching 100 RBIs. If he does, it will be the 11th year in a row that he’s accomplished that feat.
